The Mitchell Report that baseball released yesterday showed how prevalent steroids have been in baseball. However, I'd love to see an investigation of football because I'm guessing it's even worst in that league.
How is it that Shawn Merriman of the San Diego Chargers got busted with roids last year and got suspended four games, but still made the Pro Bowl? There is no criticism at all when an NFL player gets busted, but when a baseball player gets busted it's a national outrage. Just shows how the media doesn't want to touch the NFL, they make too much money off it!
Anyways, some of the players on the roid list really cracked me up and others left me plain confused.
Barry Bonds - Duh!
Jason Giambi - This guy was so bloated during his final days with Oakland that you had to know something was going on. That combined with the usual two years of nagging injuries that all these roid users seem to suffer from. You think the Yankees regret giving this bum all that money?
Jeremy Giambi - The Giambi parents must be so proud to see both of their sons on this list!
Benito Santiago - Now we know why he could throw runners out from the crouch position!
Troy Glaus - Again, two years of nagging injuries after signing a big deal. This will be repeated over and over!
Gary Matthews, Jr. - How the Angels did not see this when they signed him to a $54 million dollar deal is beyond me. The guy had done nothing in his career up until 2006 except bat about .254! Then he has a huge year in 2006 and gets a major deal. You didn't think roids were behind that? And now you're trying to trade him because he was hurt most of last year and didn't perform well. You're stuck with him now!
John Rocker - I guess roids didn't help everyone.
Roger Clemens - This is the name on the list that made me the most happy! Nothing like seeing the New York media now try and figure out if they should criticize Clemens or defend their favorite player. There is no reason at all that Clemens should be treated differently than Bonds in this matter. One was the best pitcher and one was the best hitter, and they both cheated!
Lenny Dykstra - He was nicknamed "Nails" for how hard he played. Now it appears all that aggression might have been roid rage!
Eric Gagne - Two years of injuries. Nice job Brewers on giving this guy a $10 million dollar deal, I'm sure that will be money well spent.
Jerry Hairston - Was traded to the Cubs for Sammy Sosa - I guess if you're giving up a roid user you might as well get one in return!
David Justice - Is this why Halle Berry dumped him?
Chuck Knoblauch - Must have turned to roids to help out with his throwing problems. Didn't help!
Denny Neagle - Two year injury! Major contract and never pitched again.
Rafael Palmeiro - "I have never used steroids!"
Andy Pettitte - In every interview he thanks God for his abilities. He may want to include his roid supplier as well.
Miguel Tejada - This was obvious from the start. Look at him rookie year and look at him a few years later. Skinny to monster. Also check out his nagging injuries last year and his stat decline. Good luck on this one Houston (just traded for him). I hope those 5 prospects you gave up weren't too good!
Derrick Turnbow - So now the Brewers have two closers that both used roids!
Mo Vaughn - Injuries, injuries, injuries.
Gary Sheffield - I wonder if he'll speak up about this issue like he does with every other issue in sports. He always chooses to open his big mouth to rip on others, maybe it's time to rip on himself.
Rick Ankiel - So much for that feel good story.
Paul Byrd - His name came out during this year's playoffs and he denied it. Liar.
Jose Canseco - Probably comes out of all this looking the best because he got the ball rolling on this whole mess.
Matt Williams - I always thought he had a big head!
Chad Allen - Twins fans are laughing at this one!
Ricky Bones - Brewer fans are laughing at this one!
Kevin Brown - See "big contract, injury filled career following the contract."
Jack Cust - Another feel good story of 2007 comes to an end.
Wally Joyner - Why Wally? I always liked you!
Brian Roberts - Come on, did anyone actually believe this little 2b could hit 30+ homers on his own? And how about those injuries the last couple years. Cubs might trade for him - stay far away!
Fernando Vina - What will ESPN do with him (he's an announcer on Baseball Tonight)?
Rondell White - Twins fans hate this guy! A major example of nagging injuries!
Some additional things:
Jose Canseco is pissed that A-Rod isn't on the list;
Will Roger Clemens get into the Hall of Fame; and
David Justice claimes he didn't use roids (then why not talk to Mitchell when he's doing the report to state "your side the of the story?).
Oh, and here's the whole report for your reading pleasure. All 409 pages of it!
