Rankings, or popularity contest?

This week has to rank amongst the highest as far as the most movement ever in the ESPN/Coaches poll. The top seed Florida loses, along with 3 others in the top six paving the way for the Big Ten to dominate the top 2 spots. Along with that, there are 7 teams ranked that weren't last week. With all of this happening, Nevada(10) and Washington State(11) managed to stay at the same spots.

It's amazing how basically everyone from 15 to around 35 has changed dramatically from week to week. Is this parity? Is it good for College Basketball? Does it emphasize the weaknesses in the college ranking system? A team can go from the favorites to the cellar, back to a favorite in 3 weeks.

I think the parity in College Basketball is good for the tournament, but the methods for rankings should be improved, and it's a good thing the selection committee doesn't use rankings.

In conclusion, I would like to point out my comment to the Cub Fan's post about Duke beating Boston College. They are currently 17 in the ESPN/Coaches poll, and 18 in the AP poll. I don't like to brag, but.....
