Here's a look at the latest poll averages from RealClearPolitics.com. This is the best site to visit because it takes an average of polls rather than relying on one.
Here is the national poll average which shows Obama ahead after his convention. And here are polls from the battleground states, which is obviously what matters more since it's not a national election per se.
Usually you have to wait a week or so until the conventions are done to get a good feel as to what the polls are really showing. Both candidates will get a bounce from their convention and then once the buzz has worn off people will go back to the other candidate or back to undecided.
Also, here's an analysis of the battleground states by Karl Rove (done in Newsweek). It's interactive and interesting to look at regardless of how you feel about Rove.
