Political Rants

There are some political issues I've felt like ranting about, so I thought I'd list it all in one post and get it done with.

President Bush
I'm constantly asked "how can you still support him." Well, he's the same person I voted for in 2004, nothing about him as changed. I knew what I was voting for in 2004 and he has done nothing to change my opinion. Yes there are things I disagree with him on (immigration, spending, nominating Harriet Myers to the Supreme Court, etc.), but I still support him. Iraq has not gone well, I'll admit that. But he is sticking it out and that's what is needed, not a withdrawal that will cause more problems.
Politics are like sports to a lot of people - they are on the bandwagon when things are good and when things are bad they are off and criticizing. I think you have to stick with your person/team thru thick and thin unless there is some major change you don't approve of. Look how loyal I am to the Chicago Cubs and they have been pathetic for years!!

Sen. Larry Craig
Please resign as Senator - NOW! I am so sick of certain Republican politicians ruining our party. Mark Foley destroyed us in the 2006 elections because he decided to go after teenage pages. Now Craig could ruin the 2008 elections unless he gets out of office now. But no, he's decided he's going to protest the charges and deny it happened. Thanks a lot, now this will carry into next year.
I agree that there is hypocricy when this happens to a Republican compared to a Democrat. Democrats are allowed to apologize and then go into rehab and then they are reelected with no problem. Of if you're Bill Clinton, you have sex in the Oval Office and then become the greatest thing since sliced bread. It really is amazing, imagine the outrage from liberals and the media if W. did the exact same thing as Clinton.
It's not the same for Republicans, if you commit a crime or do something scandalous, you better resign or else you'll hurt the party anymore.
I want this creep to get out of office now not only because what he did was disgusting, but also because he's hurting the party!!

Administration Resignations
Last week the Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez resigned and the media and liberals rejoiced. But then the media starting running all these stories about how there is "internal termoil" in the Bush administration because of the high profile resignations in the past year - Donald Rumsfeld, Karl Rove, Gonzales, Harriet Miers, Andrew Card, etc. So because they resigned, there must be something wrong.
Well what's funny is that it was the media who wanted all these people to resign. Everyday in editorials they blasted these figures and said they were just Bush "yesmen" who were useless. Yet, when they resign the media goes nuts asking what is going on behind the scenes, etc. Ummmm, maybe it's because you finally forced them to resign rather than some big hidden agenda???

2008 Presidential Elections
I'm really debating - Rudy or Fred? I want to get behind Rudy because he has the best chance of beating Hillary, but then again Fred is the candidate I agree with the most on issues. Unfortunately I think that Mitt Romney will be the one to get the nomination because he's the safe bet. And you know what, the safe bet doesn't win the election, just look at John Kerry.
The Democrats wanted to go with Howard Dean in 2004, but they chickened out and went with Kerry because they thought he had the best chance to beat Bush.
I'm afraid the same thing might happen with Republicans. They'll flirt with Rudy and Fred, but in the end they'll go with Romney because he looks the most like a politician. But the problem with Romney is that he has no chance of beating Hillary. I think he'd get trounced in that election.
Rudy could beat her and Fred would have a chance so that's why I'm sticking with those guys ..... for now. I really like Romney and I'll support him 100% if he's nominated, but I just don't think he has a chance.

Hurricane Katrina
Yesterday was the 2nd anniversary of Katrina and the liberal media had a field day blasting Bush once again for someone being responsible for a hurricance coming ashore and destroying a city. You know, Bush ordered the hurricane and made sure it broke the levee.
What's really annoying is the constant yelling about how the federal government isn't doing enough to rebuild the city. Give me a break!! Millions of dollars have been thrown to that city and rebuilding is taking place. The problem is that most of people who left the city were low income and are not coming back to rebuild their houses. Therefore that responsibility is left to the government to clean up the mess. I doubt if that can be done overnight.
But what really needs to happen is for the city and state to step up and do something and quit blaming Bush for all their problems. Take a look at Mississippi which was also hit hard by Katriana. They are rebuilding just fine and they aren't constantly complaining.

Comparison - take a look at Southeast Minnesota and how people lost homes and lives in flooding the other week. Did you hear constant complaining from those people and blaming Bush for their problems? Nope, they start rebuilding on their own and take assistance if given to them.
It's an absolute joke in New Orleans how they decided that Bush and the federal government were responsible for everything. What happened to the City and State leaders who were there when it happened?? No clue what they did, instead they just decided to blame Bush right away.

All right, that's enough for today. Just needed to get that off my chest.

Good posting AK. I think in 20 years the history books will shed a different light on Bush than the media is now ... in fact they will probably talk about how partisan politics crippled the country at a crucial time. I couldn't agree more with you on Bush ... exact sam guy I voted for in 2000. How many times has Hillary switched postions the last 8 years? How about Obama or our beloved Norm Coleman? Bush has stayed the course since day 1 and always done what he though was best for the country. Things haven't been great lately, and things are looking even worse to come, but I think things would have been a whole lot worse with a politician in the office the last 8 years instead of a true leader. I'm voting for Rudi ... Fred would be better, but there is no way we can have Hillary in office ... this country will look like central Mexico in 3 years if that happens. Time to take one for the team

It's funny because I was starting to warm to Fred again this week, but then I saw polls showing him not getting more than 30% of the vote in a general election.

Granted, that's because a lot of people don't know who he is yet. But I still don't think he would beat Hillary even if people know who he is.

Hillary is going to get votes from the left and independent women, just because they want a woman president.
People that think she can't win are crazy. She will be the frontrunner in general polls very shortly. The only thing holding her back is Democrats who are still supporting Obama or Edwards. That will change come January when the primaries start.

I think I need to get fully behind Rudy, he's our best shot at winning.
