Washed Up

Has golfer Michelle Wie joined the ranks of young athletes who were washed up by their 20s? If she is it can be blamed on her dad who pushed her from a young age to play in men's tournaments where she clearly wasn't ready to compete and for pushing her to turn pro when she was 16.

Wie dropped out of another tournament yesterday, complaining of wrist problems. The real reason is because if she had made two more bogies she would have been kicked off the tour for a year because of low scores.

Wie never should have been playing in men's tournament. Yes, she could drive the ball far. But that doesn't win golf tournaments, the small stuff does and she wasn't up to par on that stuff. If Wie had moved up the ranks in women's golf, won some women's tournaments and then started playing in the men's tournaments she would have been better off. Instead she's had a dad that's pushed her way too far and she's starting to resemble Anna Kournikova, a star who never was that great at their sport but was famous and washed up by the time they turned 20.
